What Is Your Greatest Weakness

SUMMER SESSION: Questions to Awaken Your Heart, Mind, and Soul.

Here is a question that will help you reflect, clarify, and celebrate your story.

Sometimes it simply takes the spark of a questions to ignite an inner flame, illuminating where you have been, where you are in this moment, and where you heart is longing to go.

Ask yourself, ask your friends, your partner, your children, or ask a stranger this week’s question, and watch the miracles unfold before you!

This week’s question is:

What is your greatest weakness?  Can you see it as a strength?

What if you could flip the worst thing about yourself around and see it as a value add? Perspective is what I like to think of as a modern day version of magic. That is why I love this week’s two-part question; It is all about shifting perspective. I will say this with all the certainty I have in me, every part of you is valuable! Every aspect of your story was divinely designed to move you towards your dreams and desires. Even the things that can be seen as weakness have value on your path forward!

There are two typical responses to this question;

  1. Wanting to hide your weakness in the shadows and not even look at them.
  2. Wanting to line them up and count them out, so you can bully yourself into a corner. Alicia Hartzell Awakening to Your Story

What if these “personal weakness” paths of thinking offered you the power to rise within your own heart and story? If you are a ‘hider and suppress’ kind of person, open the door to your heart and let the light shine in! If you are a ‘line them up like you’re in front of the firing squad’ kind of person, it’s time to change those bullying kind bullets out for ones filled with compassion and love.

You CAN see your greatest weakness as something new. There are endless ways to shift that perspective. I practice my very own triple threat approach:

  1. Love Unconditionally – Practice loving yourself unconditionally. See the weakness as it is and love yourself even with the weakness in play.
  2. Do Your Heart’s Work – See weakness as a place to jump into your heart’s work. Show up for the information that it offers you and shift and evolve according to your heart’s call.
  3. Find The Gift It Offers – Look into the weakness and find what it offers you and your story. Find the hidden power in the place it holds in your life.

This is just a jumping off point for you to shift your perspective. It’s time to allow your heart to be it’s full expression, no more hiding! You can mix and match these ways to see weakness, or you can come up with your very own.

I challenge you to look into the eyes of this part of yourself and shower it with love, acceptance and possibility.

A Few Things To Deepen Your Experience With This Week’s Question

  1. Don’t Stop At One Answer:
Take the larger macro scape question; “What is your greatest weakness? Can you see it as a strength?” and make it’s focus more micro in scope; “Can I see my great weakness or place I came up short today as a strength?”  Shifting the question like this helps you see that your truth is not just a one off experience.
  2. My Favorite Thing About Seeing Weakness and Strength:
The side effects are immediate. Shifting your perspective like this pours light, love and possibility all over your humanity. This creates a release you can feel internally deep within your heart and soul. But, you can also feel it externally too, like a weight has been lifted.
  3. Use The Question to Stay Plugged Into Your Truth:
Keep this week’s question stoking the fire of inner curiosity and let it help you stay plugged into your truth.  Two of the “I AM Essential Truths” that work really well with this week’s question are: I AM NOURISHED, I AM WHOLE, and I AM RESILIENT.

My greatest weakness is my tendency to control. I know control is an illusion. It’s a survival mechanism brought to you by my tumultuous childhood. I get better as I get older, because I don’t hide from, but instead use it to help me move forward.

My triple threat approach starts with a whole lot of self-love. Pulling layer of condition that I was shown and taught in my early years off of the love I create today. I start by saying I love you even if… I love you even if; everything falls apart, it’s a big fat mess, it doesn’t go according to plan, if you end up alone, if you do it all wrong, or if you fail. Rinse and repeat.

Alicia Hartzell Awakening to Your StoryThen I move on to showing up for my heart’s work. I look to see if there is new information that I need to navigate through, or if there is an old pattern of thinking that needs to be shifted. (This work can be found in the Awakening to Your Story Starter Kit.) Lately the feelings of control are not new information, but an exercise to re-pattern fear associated with not being enough. I have done a lot of healing work around this for myself. Until I re-pattern my thinking that is associated with the limiting beliefs, the universe will keep offering me exercises to build up that new path of thing associated with the truth.

Then I choose to look for the gifts this need to control offers me, and celebrate that. This also helps me re-pattern my thinking to be more aligned with the truth. My need to control has offered me the ability to see the big picture while also being able to focus on detail. It has also sharpened my anticipatory skills. Both of these help me greatly when working with other people and their stories.

Life always happens for you, even those weaknesses within! It’s a whole lot of powerful, personal movement created by two simple questions!

Now taking into the micro.  I wonder what it would feel like to triple threat my daily weaknesses. Rather than shrug them off or pile them up on the “bookshelf” of my heart, what if approached them through this kid of love? This week I am going to do just that. At the end of each day I am going to walk through unconditionally loving my worst moment of the day, see if there is re-patterning or heart work to be done, and then search for the gift. I challenge you to do the same, or even just one part of it.

Remember there are no wrong answers!  Try not to let the limiting voices in your head judge your responses for you.  Just stay open and curious as you reach for more of what makes you feel alive!

Tell me your answer to this week’s question. I really want hear what comes up for you! Remember I am always here to teach, support, and inspire you with heart-centered solutions for your everyday problems.
xoxo- Alicia
