Let’s talk about hate and what do do when someone hates you.

I got a comment this week describing a group friendship dynamic where one of the people hated the person writing in. As I was writing them back I thought is was a topic that would be powerful to share.

Whether it is a self-perceived expression of hate or disdain from the other person or they actually go out of their way to tell you so directly, the energy of hatred can be really tricky to navigate.

When someone hates you or actively goes out of their way to make being with you in person awkward, the tendency is to take that emotion on an make it your own.   Sometimes we try to protect ourselves by deflecting their hatred.

We may try picking them apart or calling out their flaws to make it ok for us to redirect the negative emotion back to them. Sometimes it just cuts to the core and we buckle under the weight of it. Maybe because it struck a cord of emotion that feels familiar and we worry something is wrong with us.

When faced with hate, we don’t often see or understand that we have the power to determine how we take it on, internalize it, and make it part of our story.

Alicia Hartzell Awakening to Your StoryHere is a great list of things to check when faced with hatred:

  1. Check to make sure you haven’t done something that needs to be addressed or warrants a look at how you are showing up in the world. If you find something there address it with inner love, kindness and compassion then take action to evolve and grow forward.
  2. Check to and make sure your thoughts about yourself are not filtering through their negative thoughts and attitude about you.
  3. Check to make sure you haven’t starting to think there is something wrong with you.
  4. Check to make sure your own thoughts about yourself have not started to feel like they are bulling you.

Once you check those things out then it’s time to scrub the situation down with self-love and compassion.

Moments like this in your life are the perfect place to claim your inner worthiness, value and significance.

Really pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. I know it sounds easy but it so often we don’t pay attention to your inner dialog.

Everything in life shifts and changes one thought and feeling at a time. If you keep your thoughts focused on them and what they are projecting to you then you will find yourself tied to the hatred.

But if you focus on your own heart and your own story and use this moment to build up what is True with a capital T and good within you, then you keep evolving for the better.

Let me remind you some of what is True with a capital T.

  • You came into this world worthy, valuable and significant in your uniqueness. Those things are unconditional. And while you may chip away at them with your own thinking your divinity wove them right into our humanity and they are unwavering.
  • You came into this life ready and eager to create your life one moment at a time.
  • You are the main character of your story…. and you are also the writer of it too….

Moments like these are places to check in with yourself to make sure you are being the author and main character….

Who do you want to be and how do you want to feel?

Only you have the power to determine who you want to be and how you want to show up in your life. You have the power to choose.

The better your heart feels the better the experiences in your life will be.

So please make sure you use this moment to help you grow and deepen the understanding of what you believe about yourself…. not what someone else believes about you.
